Thank you both for choosing me to be there on your wedding day, and in trusting me to give you memories for ever and always.

A special thank you to Jo Bartholomew who came along to second shoot for me on this wonderful day. Jo, you have such a raw talent, an incredible eye and are such a pleasure to be around. Thank you from the bottom of my heart (and for driving me around)!

They had a traditional wedding ceremony and also a Poruwa ceremony.  The ceremony took place on a “Poruwa”, a beautifully decorated, traditional wooden platform. The ceremony involved a series of rituals performed by the bride and groom, and their families.  It was so special and I’m so blessed to have been there to share such a beautiful moment.

Shihan and his relatives assemble on the right of the Poruwa and the Ruth’s family gatherd at the left. Ruth and Shihan then entered the Poruwa leading with the right foot first.  They greeted each other with palms held together in the traditional manner.  Ruth’s father placed her right hand on Shihan’s hand as a symbolic gesture of handing over the bride to the groom. Then Shihan’s brother handed a necklace to the him who in turn placed it on Ruth’s neck. Shihan’s maternal uncle entered the Poruwa and tied their small fingers with a single gold thread (to symbolize unity) and then poured water over their fingers.  Five women then blessed the marriage with a traditional chant (oh it was amazing, it gave me goosebumps).  Ruth was then presented a plate of milk rice specially cooked for the occasion, she then fed a piece to Shihan.  Shihan then fed Ruth. The Poruwa ceremony is something i won’t forget.  It was such a beautiful and intimate ceremony.

They chose the gorgeous Gandel Hall at the National Gallery of Australia to celebrate their wedding reception, where Ruth changed into a traditional sari.  She looked gorgeous!

They had their beautiful wedding ceremony at the Hotel Realm and their reception at the Lobby Restaurant.  Brooke and Rob wanted to spend as much time as possible with their guests and arrived during the canapés, which made it a very relaxed afternoon.  It was an absolute pleasure to witness their wedding surrounded by their close group of family and friends.

I love engagement sessions. Engagement photos are a great time for a couple to get comfortable in front of the camera and for us to get to know each other. You can get all that nervous laughter and those awkward smiles out of your system now. Engagement photos also help you show off your personalities in a more casual environment – when you’re not in heels, Spanks, and formalwear. I love J.Crew, but i especially love their wedding gowns, little white dresses and wedding veils.

There were so many special details – Ruth lost her father a few years ago – she made all her flower bouquets and button holes from pages of books that her father loved…so many tiny hand-crafted buds.  One of Ruth’s favourite books is by Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice – she had a gorgeous bracelet and earrings made from pages of the book.

Ruth and Sean are such a delight and I could not be more pleased that they now call themselves husband and wife. Thank you for choosing me to photograph your very special day. xxxx

Their beautiful wedding ceremony and reception were both in the picturesque grounds of Poachers Pantry – the perfect venue for a wedding. The Homestead lawn provided a perfect spot for their ceremony under a magnificent golden elm and they partied the night away under a beautiful marquee surrounded by lanterns and tea lights.
